BUS, SUBWAY
We met at a subway station and the staff was ready to take us to our experience. First we made traditional korean food with a group of lovely ladies who helped us make kimbap. They were very kind and the kimbap we made was delicious! After that we ate our kimbaps along with some tteokbokki and spent a good time talking with the other participants. After we were done we did a walking tour from the market to Seodaemun prison, our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Korea. When we got to the prison we took a look around the grounds and we headed to a hall where we watched a performance by musicians, who sang some of their original songs and other songs that were more traditional and some related to the events of Korea's indepence. It was a lovely performance by the trio. Our final activity of the tour was a reenactment of the events that happened inside of the prison. This was a performance about their history and the actors were very committed to their roles. Given the nature of the history they were performing it was certainly hard to watch at moments, when you think about everything the people suffered and everything they had to do in order to fight for their freedom. I think it's important to learn about this part of history as much as other aspects. As the performance went on we were touring one of the main buildings, from the level floor to the basements, where the tortures to the prisioners happened. We also interacted with some of the actors. It made me quite emotional but I learned a lot about the history and the resilience of the korean people. The staff made an outstanding job and I don't have any complaints or anything I would add at the moment. Would definitely recommend this to people interesed about the history of Korea.
Since this was a special tour, we had a special tour and performance around the grounds of the prison at night. Going during the day will allow you to take a deeper look inside all the buildings in there.
