About your trip

I spend the most beautiful weekend at the 25th edition of the Eumseong Pumba Festival (음성품바축제) celebrated in the province of Chungcheongbuk-do. Pumba was a word constantly repeated in the songs of street singers during times when Korea was very impoverished. They strolled around market places or villages seeking food, money, or anything they could get. These days, the word Pumba generally refers to Gakseori (각서리), a type of performance simply used for entertainment purposes at events or festivals🥁✨️. In Eumseong I found a place full of love, laughter, and colors. Pumba Festival is a perfect event to enjoy music and dance performances, and not just only as a spectator considering that the people will make you feel instantly welcome to the celebration putting you even in a very particular and characteristic silly make-up and costumes. And I can't forcet mentioning the long list of hands-on experience programs that you can find🌈🤗. No matter where you come from the festival embraces and celebrates diversity while allows you to take a look at the old days of poverty and the lifestyle of street singers in Korea. A healing experience of valuing the beautifully present without prejudice and laughing of oneself. So if you missed this year event, don't worry and prepare to not hold yourself and dance at Pumba's rhythm during the next one🌾🙆🏽‍♀️.

TIP

Considering this wonderful festival is held only once a year during a whole week, be sure to check out the dates and the event program so you can plan your trip accordingly which activities you want to join or which performances you want to watch. Also, there is not entrance fee, so the only thing you need to take care of is the transportation fees.
